What is Epitalon?
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from epithalamin, a substance from the pineal gland. It’s drawn attention in longevity circles for research — largely from one Russian group led by Vladimir Khavinson — suggesting effects on telomerase (the enzyme that maintains telomeres) and circadian/hormonal regulation.
The honest caveat: this evidence base is narrow and not broadly independently replicated.1
Benefits & what it’s studied for
Studied for telomerase activation and effects associated with aging.
Investigated for effects on melatonin and sleep-wake regulation.
The human evidence is sparse and concentrated in one research lineage — exactly the kind of claim that gets overstated in marketing.
How does Epitalon work?
Epitalon is proposed to influence telomerase activity and pineal/circadian regulation, which are the suggested mechanisms behind its longevity framing. These mechanisms are not well-established in independent human research.4
Dosing & administration
Research describes subcutaneous injection.5
This is educational, not medical advice. We don’t publish dosing. Specific dosing should be determined by a licensed provider after evaluation.
Risks, side effects & safety
Human safety data is limited. Reported effects are mostly injection-site related, but the absence of robust long-term data is itself the main caution. Medical supervision is important.6
Legality & status
Epitalon was among peptides removed from Category 2 in April 2026 and is scheduled for PCAC review on July 24, 2026. Off Category 2 ≠ 503A-compoundable ≠ FDA-approved, and this is moving. Confirm with a licensed provider.3 See the full picture in our legality explainer.
Regulatory status as of June 2026 — reconfirm against the live FDA 503A list before go-live.

Frequently asked questions
What is Epitalon used for?+
It’s studied for longevity-related effects, including on telomerase, though the evidence is limited.
Does Epitalon actually extend lifespan?+
The longevity claims come from a narrow, largely Russian research base that hasn’t been broadly replicated — we grade the evidence Limited and avoid overstating it.
Is Epitalon legal?+
It came off Category 2 in April 2026 and is under PCAC review July 2026, but that’s not FDA approval. Confirm with a provider.
How is Epitalon taken?+
Research describes cyclic subcutaneous injection; dosing should be set by a provider.
Is Epitalon safe?+
Human safety data is limited; the lack of robust long-term evidence is the main caution.
